We invite you to take a glimpse at some of our favorite gardens. Playing with formal and informal themes, our great passion is colorful, vibrant plantings and expert stonework.
A shady glen or a wooded wonderland can be a place of quiet refuge in the garden space. These gardens have an intriguing quality, with bright floral sprinklings and variegated foliage lightening up the shadiest areas.
The plants shown here are deer proof in areas of active deer. Some plants are eaten in certain areas but not in others; whenever we work on exposed sites we guarantee our gardens to be deer proof.
We have a special affinity for the elegant stateliness and structural clarity of classical design. Enjoy these European-influenced landscapes, with a colorful dash of California spice thrown in.
In your own garden paradise, having a place to sit and relax is essential, and a critical part of good garden design. Our clients often use their patios and sitting areas more than they anticipated, for hosting and playing as well as quiet time. Pausing to rest at a simple bench in the widening of a path prompts you to look at the garden from a different viewpoint.
Pathways do more than get you through a garden. As you turn and meander, the view lines from the paths affect the way you see the garden itself. Our staircases and walkways are built for fluidity of movement, but also to tempt you to explore the garden and admire its vistas.
We take great pride in our artistic and durable stonework. These walls, surfaces, and naturalistic rock outcroppings form the robust "bones" of our gardens, and beautifully offset the foliage and flowers. Our stone walls are not only imaginatively crafted, but also strongly structural and built to last.
Through well-designed structural work, pathways, patios and even small lawn areas can be cut into the side of a slope. The root systems of the right plants can be as strong as an engineered retaining wall, once fully established. Planting for erosion control can be as artful and lush as anything on flat ground!
When it’s necessary to demolish old materials such as concrete patios and walkways, consider the aesthetically pleasing and less costly solution of re-use. We’ve been able to build unique, attractive walls capped with stone, using recycled materials straight from the site. This is not necessarily for everyone, but it’s a great solution for big savings on new materials and debris hauling.
Nothing soothes and refreshes like water in the garden, be it the meditative drip-dropping of a tiny pond tucked among the rocks; your own cascading waterfall complete with white water; or a simple, still oasis for water lilies.
Showcasing our eye-catching combinations of beautiful, appropriate plants and a wide variety of color and texture. We grow many of our own plants for a range of planting styles, from Mediterranean to classical; sculptural succulents to perfumed roses. Foliage interest and diversity is just as important as floral color.
